What Drives Bob Dylan?

When Bob arrived in New York from the north country unusually youthfully curious, he swallowed a library of words spanning centuries, such was his thirst for knowledge and, somehow, we know how , he spat them out again, rearranged in songs whose words of truth mysteriously weave, dance and enchant us, timelessly, lacking sentimentality yet stirring the senses. However, am also pretty convinced, if my sister is anything to go by, some folk feel the diametric opposite and, are almost uncomfortable hearing those same songs which delight us. So, Bob, amongst all the other labels , wanted and unwanted, he's collected through the years, is a Marmite!

Expressing creatively, the 'arrows of outrageous fortune' as well as Bob can is blooming marvellous! Thank you Mr. B. A review of the Hop Farm Festival 2010, Saturday, headlined by Bob citied Ray Davies as the star performer. Truly I wasn't in the greatest place to take in the day but I do recall noticing Mr. Davies on stage with noticeable long black hair singing a rendition of songs from his youth , recognisable by their arrangement, akin to how they sounded several decades before. Several decades later, Mr.Dylan sings in the here and now. Was he to be singing 'Blowing In The Wind' or 'The Times They Are A-Changing' etc as though several decades hadn't passed, a nostalgic yearning of a time long gone, his appreciative audience would feel sorely treated! Thank you Mr. D for being here, now and real and continuing to express the rivers journey from source to sea in the metaphor of human experience and his unfolding days here on earth. In a time where the recorded image and photo are so available, and online info, it is a little excusable that living folk are known by earlier deeds and photos from their past. Once upon a time, I suppose before the photo and the printing press, a person was much more accountable to their present, people they were known to, value of their material possessions or, if they were particularly infamous and couldn't read or write, via song or folklore. Incredibly little is known about Shakespeare, factually speaking but if he was a contemporary today, it could well be known when he lost his first tooth and wrote his first word. Records do tell a story even if it's a warped one !

Caribbean Wind, another precious jewel!
I just picked up the 3rd disk of "Biograph" and WOW, what a song! The energy is massive. Classic Bob Dylan. I think of it in the same class as "The Groom is still Waiting at the Alter". Definatly a concert song!

Three years with the BDFC now!
August marks three years I have been with the fan club! What an exciting journey it has been! I started in Aug of 2013, after Bob's music discovered me, while watching a dvd I had ordered from a TV ad a few months earlier. Bob at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport RI. in 1963, singing Blowin in the Wind. That video changed my life!
As if Destiny had her hand on me, Bob had a scheduled tour date here in Virginia Beach a few months later in June, I believe. The Americana Tour. That was the first Bob concert, the first anyone concert I ever saw in my life!!! I was totally hooked by then. Even tossing everything I had aquired of Bob's after that didn't stop me. Less than a day. That was the shortest breakup I have had with him, lol In 2015, April 12, I went to his show in Richmond. I had front row seats, right beside the piano! This time I stood and danced until the second half when someone behind me asked if I could sit down sometimes. I obligated, because of her elderly father who was there with her. But anyway it was the absolute high mark I had ever had up to that time. This year, I had become very close friends with another long time Bob fan, Carol Wilkison, and he and I got together in Dallas, TX and we traveled to Bob's show in Red Rocks in Denver. This was the most wonderful time of my life!!! I got to meet two of my hero's, Caroline and Kait, and even stood with them at the end of the show holding the BDFC banner for Bob to see!!! How amazing is that! To go from knowing nothing about Bob Dylan to being in the front row with so many of the most wonderful fan club members ever!!! What a lifetime memory!  Thank you Caroline and Kait for being the greatest and helping along this rocket of a journey! Thank you Peggy Day and all the other fan club members that made me feel so welcome! And thank you Carol for being that special one for me. This is just the beginning and Destiny will have her way and we all will keep on this journey with Bob, "until the wheels fall off and burn", holding on, hoping the roof stays on! :)
I love you, Bob! I love you Carol! I love you Caroline and Kait! I love all of Bob's "loyal and much loved companions", that I have met, traveled this journey with and learned so much from! You all mean so much to me!
